Pav bhaji | Episode 11 | Healthy and tasty
Pav bhaji is a street food of India. It consists of thick vegetable curry with bread called pav. It is mainly famous in Mumbai. Now it has become a daily part of every indian. It is basically smashed potato with vegetable like carrot, peas etc and indian spices.
What is the history about pav bhaji ?
There are mainly 2 connections. One is with Portuguese and america.
AMERICAN STORY
During the american Civil War in 1860s there was a huge demand of cotton due to this the trade at Bombay (Mumbai) is very busy especially at night time due to this when they reach home they didn't get food by there angry wife's. To resolve this problem they the street vendors started selling leftover bread with potato mixed with vegetable. It give them whole nutrients and a full diet food.
PORTUGUESE STORY
The underlying foundations of Pav Bhaji can be followed back to Portuguese, where the dish is supposed to be initially made. The Portugese used to make pav bhaji with every one of the vegetables combined as one and used to consume it with bread. In Portuguese, bread is known as 'pao', which is likewise called pav or pao in India. Many individuals say that 'pav' was named thus, since it was 1/fourth piece of the bread. Now let's start the recipe
Ingredients:-
1. Pav
2 Butter
3. Chopped vegetable ( onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, carrot, capsicum, peas )
4 Spices like turmeric powder, chill powder, coriander powder, pav bhaji masala.
5 Potato, cumin seeds.
6. Coriander leave
Preparation:-
- Step 1
Boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker for 5 to 10 minutes. (2 whistle). After that, keep the potato in cold water and peal the skin.
- Step 2
Take a utensil, add butter to it, and add cumin seed. Then add chopped ginger, garlic, and green chillies to it and let it cook for 2 minutes. Add onion until it becomes pink in colour, and add tomatoes to it. Add all the spices mentioned above and a little bit of water.
Then add the potatoes to it and mix them well.
Then add 1/2 cups of water and let it boil for 5 minutes. At the end, add pav bhaji masala and chopped coriander leaves.
- Step 3
Take a pan, apply butter to it, and cook it until it becomes brown and crispy. Serve it on a plate with onions and lemon and extra butter.
Your dish is ready to eat.
